Loughrea woman is set to receive a Member of the Order of Australia

A Loughrea woman is set to receive a Member of the Order of Australia for her work in researching and raising funds for pancreatic cancer awareness later this year. Caroline Kelly is originally from Gurtymadden but has since become a citizen of Sydney. he co-founded PanKind, the Australian Cancer Foundation in 2008 which focuses on positive change in the lives of pancreatic cancer patients. The charity has raised over 11 million Australian dollars over the years in various fundraising efforts, such as the ‘Put your Foot Down’ Walks. Caroline was named on the Honours List for Australia Day last month, and will receive the award later this year from Australian Governor-General......
Time to close the gates on Illegal dumping in Loughrea

Galway County Council is taking firm steps to combat repeated illegal dumping in a Loughrea estate. It’s to erect two gates to stop dumping in a field adjacent to Fahy Gardens. There was such a volume of rubbish dumped there recently that four skips were needed to take it away.There’s also been complaints of giant rats in the estate as a result of the massive build-up of waste. Councillor Declan Kelly said residents of Fahy Gardens have been putting up with the situation for far too long.
Dodgy Box clamp down & legal warnings!

22 operators suspected of selling so-called ‘dodgy boxes’ have been issued with legal warnings to stop in recent weeks.The cease-and-desist warnings are part of a wider campaign to clamp down by the Federation Against Copyright Theft to shut down illegal TV streaming activities in Ireland.

Loughrea Rugby Club are excited to announce they are hosting a Mega Car Wash Fundraiser. Is there dirt under your car? Is there a odd looking mould on your hood? Possibly a bird dropped a little present on your windshield? Well come to Loughrea Rugby Club on the 3rd of March between 12pm and 4pm and we'll take care of it all. All donations on the day support the U17 trip to La Rochelle.

Pictured this week at the Loughrea Vintage & District Club presentation night. Attending was Caroline on behalf of Western Alzheimers with the club's members who helped raise €7,652.00 earlier this year in May at their Annual Vintage & Classic Car & Tractor Run in Loughrea. Brian Gallagher of Gallaghers of Ballyfa was on hand to provide delicious food and beverages, along with a warm welcome as always. Thank you to the people who donated to us for Western Alzheimers. Its thanks to you all that we were able to run this event. That concludes the clubs fundraising for 2023. They will be holding other smaller events in the coming months. Stay tuned on......
